Mumias East Member of Parliament Peter Salasya has been summoned to appear before the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC)

The lawmaker will have a date with the integrity and anti-graft body on Tuesday, 23.

According to EACC CEO and Secretary Twalib Mbarak, the Commission is mandated to ensure high level of integrity amongTwalib noted that the recent incident where the Mumias East Legislature was caught on camera slapping a local MCA Peter Walunya at a Kakamega funeral puts the integrity of the lawmaker in question.

“We have to instill some mannerisms among our leaders, these leaders should be role models in the society,” said Twalib

He said the Tuesday meeting and interrogation will be pegged on Chapter Six of the Constitution, where matters revolving around integrity are deeply discussed.

‘It is our role to ensure that Kenyans respect the provisions of the supreme law in the country, and when a lawmaker disregards the laws, then who will respect these laws?” Posed, Mr Twalib.

Though the MP said he was ready to face the integrity and anti-graft body, he has defended himself, saying he is a ‘law abiding’ citizen.

“I did not slap Peter Walunya, he only moved closer to my hand and touched it. This was not intentional,” Salasya defended himself.

Salasya has to some extent been labeled ‘Drama King’ following the questionable characters he has displayed in public since he sailed to power in the August 2022 general polls.

In various public functions, the MP has been seen battling other local leaders, raising more questions and disapproval from the public.

Recently, the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) criticized Salasya for uniting with parents within his Mumias East schools to harass and eject teachers from the schools following poor performance in the 2023 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE).

KNUT Secretary General Collins Oyuu said child performance involves the efforts of the children themselves, their parents, and teachers, rubbishing claims that principals in the affected schools are the cause of the poor performance.

“We want all those involved in harassing and injuring our teachers as they ejected them from schools to be arrested and charged,” Mr Oyuu recently said in a press briefing in Shanzu, Mombasa.
