
Mombasa County Assembly Speaker Aharub Khatri has extended food reliefs to Mombasa residents during the Holy month of Ramadan.
Khatri says he is not discriminating against any religious beliefs but his gesture cuts across all the residents regardless of their beliefs.
Speaking in Changamwe on Sunday morning where he had given locals food during the Holy month of Ramadan, the Mombasa County Assembly Speaker says the move aims at enabling both Muslims and non Muslims get food.
“I have been handing over iftar and other reliefs to my Muslim brothers and sisters during the Holy month of Ramadan, however, I am not only helping the Muslims but all residents directly benefit from these releiefs” said Mr Khatri.
The Mombasa County Assembly Speaker has been traversing different parts of the County including Nyali, Kisauni, Jomvu and Changamwe Sub counties, adding that he will traverse the other Likoni and Mvita Sub counties for the same exercise.
“There is nothing good like sharing with the needy in our own society. We all understand how the economy has challenged us and to some extent some of our Muslim bothers and sisters have nothing to break their fast with,” added the Speaker.
He has appealed to other well wishers to join hands in helping the needy in the society and further extend their helping hands to Muslim faithful across the county who are observing the Holy month of Ramadan.
Mr Khatri has been issuing food reliefs among them, rice, wheat flour, Maize flour, cooking oil, rice, sugar beans dates among other foods reliefs.
The Holy month of Ramadan that extends to either 29 or 30 days depending on the sighting of the moon and official announcement from the Chief Kadh, Sheikh Abdulhalim Hussein is regarded as the most Holy month where the Holy Qur’an was handed to mankind.
It is also the month where Muslims observe fasting, spending the day without eating or drinking or consuming any type of food until evening during breaking of the fast.
Muslims are also encouraged to indulge in doing good deeds to others, get more closer to their Creator (Allah), pray and repent so that they can be cleansed of their sins.
Married couples are discouraged from having sex while fasting as it breaks that fast.
