Former Kisauni Member of Parliament Ali Mbogo has reiterated that Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Sharif Nassir should be impeached over his laxity.
Mbogo says Mombasa County will remain in a sorry state if Nassir continues to lead as the County Chief for the remaining two and a half years, before the 2027 general election.
The politician stated that the complaints from Mombasa residents over poor services from the County Government depicts Governor Nassir’s failure to steer the county to higher development objectives.
According to Mbogo, Mombasa residents should not expect any miracle from Nassir but poor services until the day he will be ousted whether through impeachment or democratic voting process.
“Our Ward representatives have failed us. With the recent predicaments they would have ousted Nassir through impeachment and the Deputy Governor Francis Thoya to take the mantle of leading us until we go for a fresh election,”noted Mbogo.
He slammed Nassir over unfulfilled promises saying the education sector is the worst hit with the ‘unending lies’ Nassir has been propagating to Mombasa residents.
“He started with bursaries where students were promised 5,000 shillings each, some never received the amount and Nassir could not respond to the many complaints from secondary school students. to date, the program has been marred by many questions than answers,” stated Mbogo.
Mbogo who has declared his bid for the Mombasa Governor seat come 2027 general election disclosed that he will embrace an all-inclusive leadership that will accelerate swift transformative change in Mombasa county.
“Why should the secondary school students even pay school fees if the county government receives a whopping 14 billion shillings every financial year? The county government should cater for that so that all students get education,” added Mbogo.
He rubished Nassir’s recent scholarship programme for university students saying the program failed even before taking off .
“With someone whose academic credentials are questionable then we do not expect any serious developments and transformation in the education sector,” repeated Mbogo.
He appealed to Mombasa residents to restrategise, educate and inform each other on the importance of voting in dedicated and visionary leaders who will facelift theirs living standards.
Various quarters in Mombasa among them human rights defenders and gender activists have disapproved Governor Nassir’s leadership, saying the once vibrant Mombasa County government is performing so poorly in matters revolving around development.
Gender activists have also flagged the governors leadership especially with the recent developments where Nassir was linked to the planning and gang rape of a Mombasa blogger Bruce John kajira. The Governor has since recorded statement over the matter with an active case already in court.
