Mombasa County Executive Committee Member (CECM) in charge of Finance and Economic Planning Evans Oanda was on Thursday morning reportedly abducted by security agents in civilian clothes.
The officials raided his Mombasa residence at around 5 am in the morning, grabbing the County official, bundling him in a car and they drove off at a high speed.
It is not yet clear where the officers are currently holding him up, however, a city lawyer has ordered the Mombasa County government to pay his Ksh15 million debt by the close of business Thursday before Oanda is released.
The unverified debt dates back during the defunct Mombasa Municipal Council days.
Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Sharif Nassir had earlier said that some people have been using dubious means and documenting unverified pending and fictitious bills amounting to millions of shillings demanding the County government to settle them.
Nassir said such people have been abusing the legal process to compel the government pay them.
He termed the situation as—corruption fighting back—saying the County government will not bow to such corruption deals and gimmicks.
The whereabouts of the Mombasa Finance CECM remains unknown, with efforts to trace him being accelerated for the better part of the day.
