Mombasa County Commissioner Mohammed Nur has issued a stern warning to juvenile gangs terrorising locals in Kisauni Sub County that they will be dealt with properly.

Nur warned that Kisauni has been notorious with very young boys of up to 15 years slashing locals with pangas, injuring them and stealing their valuables.

Speaking in Mombasa, the Administrator noted that in a recent operation within Kisauni Sub county, atleast 23 youth were nabbed and detained with more security operations lined-up in the entire Mombasa county.

Nur, also warned parents hiding their children indulging in crime, adding that the end will be extremely bitter for such parents.

“We will arrest both the children and their parents too who will be required to explain why their children are involving themselves in criminal activities,” noted Mr Nur.

He blamed irresponsible parents for the mayhem witnessed in Kisauni Sub county.

“As a responsible parent you should always watchout on your childrens’ activities whether in the house or outside your vicinity. They are your children and not the teacher’s or police responsibility,” noted the County Commissioner.

He warned that the minors found in illegal outfits will be lawful punished.

Operation

Nur said the security operation will be extended to all the other five Sub counties of Nyali, Jomvu, Changamwe, Likoni and Mvita, further urging parents to play their parenting roles properly.

Nur’s stern warning come after Chief Kadh Sheikh Abdulhalim Hussein raised concerns over the increased criminal activities within Mombasa county.

Sheikh Hussein said there has been reports of locals being terrorised, injured and their valuables stolen, a situation that has caused a lot of fear among Mombasa dwellers and traders.

“Though the government is working hard to quell the current situation, we need more efforts from the authorities so that we live in peace and our property be guarded,” noted Chief Kadh.

His sentiments were backed by Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Sharif Nassir. Nassir blamed parents for failing to take their parenting roles seriously.

Nassir noted that crime rates in Mombasa shoots during holidays an indication that underage boys of school going age are actually criminals.

“I want to clearly state that lack of employment should not be used as scapegoat to the increased crime rates in Mombasa. How can a 14-year old boy who is supposed to be in school and even without a National ID card indulge in crime because of unemployment? This doesn’t add up,” noted Governor Nassir.

He urged parents to closely monitor their children, spend more time with them, listen to what they say and be watchful of what they equally do.

“We have a very vulnerable generation, no parent should play a stranger to their own children, this has caused a lot of pain to both parents and their children as the end has been always gruesome,” reiterated the County Chief.
