A renowned anti-drug activist based in Changamwe, Mombasa died in a tragic road accident on Tuesday morning.
Babu Hussein was a Peer educator in Changamwe Sub county attached to anti-drug organisation Reachout Centre Trust.
The late Hussein has been engaging the youthful generation deterring them from doing drugs, efforts that made him a dedicated selfless community servant in the entire Changamwe and Jomvu Sub counties.
A vehicle knocked him down on his way to a nearby mosque in Changamwe for the Early morning prayers.
Reachout Centre Trust Executive, Director Taib Abdulrahman mourned the late Hussein.
“He remained our Icon and anti-drug Champion in Changamwe and Jomvu Sub counties, creating awareness to the communities on the effects of drug use. He was already engaging the young generation and students during the school holidays, dissuading them from abusing drugs,” said Mr Taib.
The late Hussein was using his real life story of being immersed into drugs and how his life was surrounded by drug use for years until he was treated and helped out by the anti-drug lobby, Reachout Centre Trust. He successfully walked out of the menace and turned anti-drug Ambassador in Mombasa county.
His life has been revolving around educating his peers on the effects of drug abuse, a role he played with all the zeal until he took his last breath on Monday through a tragic road accident, in Changamwe.
On the organisations’ Facebook page and other social media handles, RCT posted;
“Today, we mourn the loss of one of our own. The Reachout Centre Trust fraternity is deeply saddened by the passing of Babu Hussein, a dedicated peer educator at Reachout, Changamwe Sub county. His unwavering zeal and hard work leaves an indelible mark on our hearts. Rest in peace, Hussein. You will be dearly missed,”
The late Hussein was buried on Tuesday in Jomvu Sub county under Islamic rituals, burial that was attended by collegues and Reachout staff led by Taib, locals and other activists from both Changamwe and Jomvu.
