Nairobi, Kenya, October 16, 2025-The President of the Matatu Owners Association (MOA), Albert Karakacha, has conveyed his heartfelt condolences following the untimely passing of ODM Party Leader and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
“It is with deep sorrow that I join millions of Kenyans and countless admirers around the world in mourning the passing of the Rt. Hon. Raila Amolo Odinga,” said Mr. Karakacha.
“This is a monumental loss to our nation — the passing of a towering statesman, a fearless defender of democracy, and a true patriot whose courage, sacrifice, and vision shaped Kenya’s political landscape for nearly five decades. His lifelong dedication to freedom, justice, and good governance inspired hope even in the darkest of times, while his steadfast commitment to national unity and reconciliation always shone through during our country’s most challenging moments.”
Karakacha reflected on his personal interactions with the late former Prime Minister, describing him as humble, warm, and deeply patriotic.
“Despite his immense stature, he remained approachable, compassionate, and deeply devoted to the well-being of all Kenyans,” he noted.
“Odinga was a political giant without equal, a mentor and father figure to many, and a visionary leader whose indelible legacy will continue to inspire generations. His enduring spirit and unyielding pursuit of a just, united, and prosperous Kenya will forever remain a guiding light for our nation.”
On behalf of the Public Transport Sector and specifically the Matatu Owners Association, Karakacha extended his deepest sympathies to Mama Ida Odinga, the entire Odinga family, and to all Kenyans mourning this immense national loss.
Mr. Karakacha last met the Rt. Hon. Raila Odinga in May this year, a moment he now treasures deeply.
“May the soul of the Rt. Hon. Raila Amolo Odinga rest in eternal peace.”
