The three main arms of government have agreed to work together to control corruption in their positions, President William Ruto has said.
The central government, the Parliament, and the Court, he said, will use the “joint approach of the government” to achieve the goal of eradicating the evil.
“I want to promise the people of Kenya that we are united and determined to eradicate the problem of corruption in our country,” he said.
Speaking at the opening of the Gilgil College of Education and Technical Training in Nakuru County, he stressed that corruption, negligence, and personal interests undermine the country’s development.
The president called on leaders, including leaders of social organizations, religious institutions, and the opposition, to come together and support the fight against corruption.
He asked those in the opposition to stop introducing politics into the dialogue between the three branches of government and instead contribute ideas on how the legal system in the country and the courts can be empowered to deal with corruption.
“We don’t need to have arguments about something that requires the joint efforts of all Kenyans,” he said.
President Ruto asked leaders to abandon competitive politics and focus on providing services to the people.
He said it would be an insult to the people if the leaders continued to do politics instead of delivering the promises they made to Kenyans.
“I am asking all leaders, especially in Kenya First, to abandon competition for any position, current or future, so that we can focus on delivering services to the people of Kenya,” he said.
Those who attended were Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, Minister of Education Ezekiel Machogu, Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika, and the leader of the majority in the National Assembly, Kimani Ichungwa.
Others were MPs Martha Wangari, Jane Kihara (Naivasha), Irene Njoki (Bahati), Silvanus Osoro (Mugirango South), Eric Muchangi (Runyenjes), David Gikaria (Nakuru East), Paul Chebor (Rongai), and Liza Chelule (County Nakuru).
