
Four Tanzanian nationals have been arraigned in Mombasa Law Court for smuggling goods from the neighbouring country.
The suspects; Khalifa Abdalla Seif, Issa Ismail Issah and Nasoro Abdalla Seif were jointly charged with being in possession of uncustomed goods including purified water, energy drinks and juice products with a dutiable value of Ksh.24,565. On his part, Nganzi Mohamed Abdalla, who was the driver of the mini-bus vehicle used to transport the goods, was charged with conveying uncustomed goods.
They all appeared before Mombasa Chief Magistrate, Alex Ithuku.
The suspects were found with goods imported from Tanzania on January 11th 2025 at Simba Coach Stage in Mwembe Tayari area within Mombasa County.
The excisable goods were also not affixed with valid excise duty stamps.
They all denied the offences and were released on a Ksh.100,000 bond each.
The case will be mentioned on January 21st, 2025.
KRA enforcement officers with the assistance of other law enforcement agencies have made significant progress in dismantling the network involved in elaborate tax evasion schemes linked to smuggling of goods.
Taxpayers are encouraged to pay their taxes and remain compliant with tax laws in order to avoid punitive enforcements measures.
