The Kenya’s opposition has been caged once again after President William Ruto hinted at working on a broader political discussion that will include all quarters including the opposition and the youth.
The broader perspective in political engagement has seen the opposition leader Raila Odinga teaming up with President William Ruto and Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) to chat the way forward for the nation.
President Ruto said the deliberations will be spearheaded by at least 150 representatives with the 50 representation being from the youth.
Raila on his part, backed the move saying the country largely needed a dialogue to solve various leadership aspects that would see the country heal.
However, in a quick response from one of the political commentators Mohamed Warsama, termed the move ‘an end of an era for Raila’.
Gen Z
Warsama noted that Gen Z have resoundingly rejected Raila Odinga and his brand of politics.
He said the youth have openly told Raila to go home and retire as they effectively told him they didn’t need him and his bosom friends to dialogue on their behalf.
The Gen Z on Tuesday’s July, 9, 2024 denounced agreement to dialogue that Raila and Kalonzo made with William Ruto.
“Do we need dialogue to discuss sacking corrupt officials? Posting hospital interns? Ending incompetence?” read part of Warsama’s comment.
The Gen-Z told off Raila, telling the opposition leader that the issues raised only require President Ruto to administratively tackle them.
Recently, Raila said “Gen Z have told me to sit back,” He lamely tried to defend his position by adding that history and events of the past cannot just be ignored or brushed aside. “One builds the present on the past,” he insisted.
However, Kalonzo directly warned Ruto and Raila that the Gen Z cannot be wished away. “If we are not careful, all of us will be thrown out,” he said.
Meanwhile, former Raila running mate in the August, 2022 General election, Martha Karua, warned that the proposed dialogue mooted at KICC by Ruto with Raila and Kalonzo on Tuesday might be a trap.
“Dialogue can only be meaningful if the players have good faith and are guided by the best interests of the people,” she said.
