Nairobi, Kenya — November 10, 2025—Popular Kenyan gospel singer Betty Bayo has passed away at Kenyatta National Hospital after a battle with acute leukaemia, her family confirmed on Monday.

Bayo, 35, whose real name was Beatrice Wairimu Mbugua, rose to prominence in Kenya’s gospel music scene with her soulful voice and inspirational songs. She was best known for her hit track “11th Hour”, which resonated with audiences across the country and earned her a devoted following.

Born and raised in Nairobi, Bayo sang in both English and Kikuyu, blending traditional and contemporary gospel styles. Her music often focused on themes of hope, faith, and perseverance, making her a source of encouragement for many Kenyans.

Family members say she had been receiving treatment for leukaemia for several months. Her passing has been met with widespread shock and grief across the gospel music community, with fellow artists and fans expressing condolences on social media.

Bayo, was a frequent performer at gospel events and church gatherings, using her music to inspire spiritual reflection.

She collaborated with other Kenyan gospel artists and mentored young singers.
