The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) and the General Service Unit (GSU) soldiers for the better part of Sunday continued with their assault against Al-Shabab gunmen in Basuba, Lamu County.

The sting operation being executed in Basuba, Boni Forest, in Lamu county follows an attempt by the Al-Shabab militiamen to attack a local GSU camp in Lamu county on Sunday morning.

Speaking in Lamu on Sunday, Lamu County Commissioner Wesley Koech said that the multi-agency security team is currently pursuing the militiamen, with an aim of distabilising their security threats.

“The gunmen attempted to attack Basuba military camp before they were repulsed. We have hastened our operations against them,” said Mr. Koech.

He said adequate reinforcement has been sent to Boni to hot up the security operation.

“Despite all these occurrences, Lamu is safe and calm for locals, tourists and other investors. Compared to the recent past, security agencies have done what they were supposed to do to secure the entire county,” he said.

The Administrator further stated that the attack is an isolated case, urging locals to remain vigilant and report to security apparatus any security threats for urgent actions.
