Nairobi, Kenya — October 30, 2025 –The Jubilee Party has appointed former Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i as its Deputy Party Leader and endorsed him as its 2027 presidential flag bearer.

The decision was reached during a National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting chaired by Party Leader and former president Uhuru Kenyatta at the party headquarters in Nairobi on Thursday.

In a statement issued by Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni, the NEC confirmed that Dr. Matiang’i’s formal application to run for president under the Jubilee ticket was received and unanimously approved.

“The NEC has officially received and accepted the formal application of Dr. Fred Matiang’i to be the Jubilee Party’s presidential candidate,” Kioni said. “Accordingly, he has been nominated to represent the Party within the United Opposition Movement.”

The meeting also saw the NEC fill several vacant positions, including the appointment of Kagwe Gichohi as Executive Director, Ekomwa James Lomenen as Senate Whip, and Samwel Arama as National Assembly Party Whip.

As part of its revitalisation plan, the NEC approved a nationwide membership recruitment and mobilisation campaign aimed at strengthening grassroots structures and rebuilding public confidence in the party ahead of the 2027 General Election.

The party reaffirmed its commitment to work closely with the United Opposition Movement, describing it as a strategic alliance of like-minded political formations seeking to offer a strong and people-centered alternative to the current administration.

The NEC meeting began with a message of condolence to the family of the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, with the party expressing solidarity with the Odinga family and the ODM fraternity following his passing.

Jubilee now positions Dr. Matiang’i as the face of its political rebirth, signaling a renewed push to reclaim national relevance ahead of the 2027 polls.
