Jahmby Koikai’s father dies as the Reggae Queen is laid to rest

It is a double tragedy for the Koikai’s family after the Radio and TV Presenter Mary Njambi Koikai famously known as Jahmby Koikai’s father died.

Ambassador Daniel Koikai is said to have killed himself in his house within Kenya’s Capital, Nairobi’s, hours after he attended the memorial service of his daughter at the Nairobi Chapel where he paid an emotional tribute to his daughter and apologised for being an ‘absentee father’

On Friday, when the Late Fyah Mummah (Fire Mama) was laid to rest at the Lang’ata cemetery in Nairobi, the Dad was missing, only for heartbreaking news to surface that he was dead.

Through the details of the cause of his death remained scanty, it is reported that Mr Koikai took away his own life.

Daniel Koikai’s body was discovered in his Nairobi house on Friday morning, the very day Njambi was to be laid to rest at the Lang’ata cemetery.

“Your sudden and unexpected death cut short your very bright and promising career at a time you had already entered the political arena, and having vied to be an MP for Dagoretti South in the 2022 election where you came an impressive forth,” said the remorseful dad in eulogy.

He carried on “At your bedside in the hospital with your mother the night you left us, you told me that we were the same blood and that you were glad I had come. We have been reunited and I hope that one day we will be reunited again. May the Almighty God rest your soul in peace, Njambi,” he concluded letting tears flowing freely down his cheeks.

Fyah Mummah’s burial was attended by colleagues, renowned media personalities, celebrities among reggae music fans.

Koikai presented reggae shows in various media houses including Nation FM and NTV among others.

She was among the pioneers of KBC owned first 24-hour reggae station Metro FM.

She took the final bow before ‘Jah’ (God) on June, 3, 2024 after 17 years of battling endometriosis, a disease linked to menstrual health.
