Angry residents in Kilibasi area of Samburu location, Kinango, in Kwale County killed a marauding lion which has been invading their homes, threatening their lives and killing livestock.
According to the residents, despite calling KWS officials to tame the lions, the officials have ignored their calls sending them into fears over being killed by the lions and other wild animals.
The KWS reported that on September, 18, 2024, in the interior areas of Kilibasi known as Karakacha, locals used a trap to net one marauding lion and killed it.
“The marauding lions have been invading homes and recently the home of former Kwale gubernatorial aspirant Engineer Lung’anzi Chai, and residents decided to battle them. We do not encourage that,” read the KWS report.
Locals say KWS has been taking so long to respond to such dangerous scenarios of lion raids. KWS officials later picked the dead lion and took it to their camp.
Mackinnon Ward in Kinango Sub county has been badly affected by the wild animals who normally escape the Tsavo National park in taita taveta county and terrorise locals.
Mackinnon area borders the Taita taveta county in Maungu.
The same is witnessed in some parts of Kilifi county where wild animals have been destroying crops leaving locals hopeless.
