Politician cum investor, Ali Mbogo has vowed to invest in sports to enable the youth earn from their God-given talents.

Mbogo, who is eying the Mombasa gubernatorial seat in the 2027 general polls, has assured youth that he will walk with them throughout their journey of nurturing their sports talents so that they directly earn from them.

Speaking after witnessing thrilling sports competitions at High-Level area in Shimanzi within Mvita Constituency where he also engaged the youth in deliberations on sports development in Mombasa County, Mbogo said Mombasa has for years been known for nurturing sports talents, producing stars locally, nationally and internationally, however, the light has been dwindling.

He noted that in Kisauni for example where there is hospitality and tourism investments, more than 50 available hotels had their own soccer teams, making sports vibrant in Mombasa, however, not any more.

“We had various soccer teams including a soccer team comprising of all transport companies among them the Kenya Airways and Kenya Railways. We now only see Bandari soccer team, how many talents will Bandari team absorb”? noted Mbogo.

Youth

He urged the youth to remain focused and back him so that they attain their goals of benefiting from their talents.

“This is the first time am setting my foot here to deliberate with you on how we can together face-lift our Mombasa county. I promise you it is not the last time, I will definitely return, mainly to listen to you and work with your towards achieving our political and development dream,” added the former Kisauni Lawmaker.

He said sports was one way of enabling youth earn from their talents and creating space and opportunities for such ventures was what is missing within the current Mombasa county leadership.

“Our youth needs the space, facility, equipment and guidance so that they are always on the right path from their very tender age in primary, secondary school to universities. Some of these youth are very promising and they only need mentorship so that they reap from sports,” noted Mbogo.

Meanwhile, the LAPSSET Authority Chairperson noted that the current county leadership can engage investors within Mombasa county so that they give the many unemployed youth opportunities.

Mbogo scoffed at Mombasa County Governor Abdulswamad Sharif Nassir for lack of strategy to accelerate vibrancy in development agenda of the county.

“I want you to tell me the benefits you’ve enjoyed as Mombasa county residents since Nassir took the county leadership. We are experiencing poor services ranging from health, environment, education, infrastructure, disaster preparedness and conducive environment for businesses to grow among others. In summary we are suffering from unfulfilled promises from the Governor,” noted Mr Mbogo.
