Kilifi County Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) official, Aisha Akinyi Abubakar was on Sunday attacked and killed at her home in Utange area, Mombasa County.
Aisha, together with her 18-year old son, Khasim Hassan were attacked by two armed men at around 3am Sunday morning, killing the IEBC official and seriously injuring the son.
Mombasa County Police Commander, Peter Kimani confirmed the incident saying the attackers were armed with a crowbar and a knife which they used to break into the house through kitchen window, breaking the grills.
“They stabbed the woman before cutting her head after cutting the son on the head too,” said the police.
Police were informed of the incident by Premier Hospital doctors who told them that a victim of robbery with violence has succumbed to deep cuts.
Her Son managed to drive her to the hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival. The son, Khasim Hassan is still nursing deep cuts in the hospital, he is still receiving urgent medical attention.
“The attackers made a way with electronics among them mobile phone, 65 inch TV, sound system, an iPad among other electronics,” revealed Mr Kimani.
The attackers were hooded during the entire robbery with violence incident, police noted.
Police rushed to the scene to comb the Mkunguni-Utange home belonging to the late senior Kilifi IEBC official.
Investigation into the killing of the 48-year old IEBC and the injuring of her 18-year old son Khasim Hassan is underway.
