The County Assembly of Mombasa has adopted the reports on public participation of the Mombasa County Climate change Bill, 2024 and the Mombasa County Climate Change Fund Bill, 2024.
In her presentation to the House, the chairperson committee on Water, Natural Resources and Climate Change Resilience Hon. Leila Nyache, expressed her gratitude to the committee members and secretariat for their invaluable and logistical support. She further extended her appreciation to all Mombasa residents and civil society organizations who actively participated by sharing their oral and written views.
While explaining the adverse affects of climate change, Hon . Abdirahman Hussein said that the reports would provide a basis for capacity building, thus enabling members to exercise their oversight role.
The Vice chairperson, Hon. Hawa Abdulrahman also lauded the efforts of the Committee and added that the report had captured and considered submissions and feedback received from the members of the public.
She also said that the report recommended collaboration with both national and international stakeholders.
Regarding the report on public participation of the Mombasa County Climate Change Fund Bill, 2024, Hon. Leila said that the committee took into account the advice and points of concern from the fora. She affirmed that the dedicated fund proposed in the report would help coordinate projects related to climate change adaptation and mitigation.
Hon. Hamida Noor also commended the efforts of the committee while stating that the initiative would have far reaching implications while safeguarding the present and future generations amidst the growing threat of climate change .
During the sitting the Mombasa County Climate Change Fund Bill 2024 was subjected to a Second and Third reading.
