The recently launched radio station Coco FM has excited the Coast region fan base, with the audience showing positive reception to the new kid on the block.
The Kilifi based Talk, News and Entertainment station has already elicited mixed reactions many speculating on who is behind the digital modern state of the art radio station that is broadcasting in Swahili language.
Among the heavy big names that have sent competitors tail wagging are the Radio queen Mgeni Shaban famously known as Sister Shirneez, Kura Tsuma who goes on air as Kalambua or The Me, Anita Santuri, Joseph Marwa and Kassim Mbui.
Other big names in the Radio industry that set foot at Coco FM are Zulekha and Content creator Rubby Kache.
Sister Shirneez or Anti-virus is well known for her very entertaining youthful shows and her vast fan base in the region has expressed missing her on air since she resigned from Mediamax Limited owned Msenangu FM.
Shirneez as her fans would refer to her is known for nurturing coastal talents, heavily contributing to the Coast ever growing Coast entertainment scene. However, she will pair-up with a renowned comedian Kalambua in the Coco Drive Show. The duo once worked at Mijikenda Radio station, Radio Kaya.
Kassim Mbui who worked at Radio Maisha is pairing up with Zulekha who is among the pioneers of the vibrant standard Group owned Radio Maisha and Content creator Rubby Kache in the Janjaruka mid-morning show.
The morning show dubbed Coco Asubuhi is hosted by Joseph Marwa, Anita Santuri and Eric Ponda.
Marwa and Santuri both worked and Mediamax owned national radio station, Milele FM while Mr Ponda has worked for international media house Deutche Welle (DW), based in Germany.
The station with a variety of different shenre ranging from Rhumba, New generation music being local and Bongo flavours, Taarab music and some taste of Mijikenda vybes, is linked to a learned friend cum politician George Kithi, statements that we are yet to substantiate.
Coco FM is said to be scouting for more talents to construct a vibrant newsroom that will also consist of sports and business desks, giving the already existing media establishment a run for their money.
No doubt the new Kilifi based radio station, Coco FM is adding to the already saturated media industry stiff competition as it is rumoured to become the first Coast based radio station to go national.
