Politics aside, Kenyans on Sunday came together to wish ODM Leader Raila Odinga a belated 79th birthday.
The main birthday celebration will be conducted in Malindi, Kilifi county at former Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho’s residence.
Raila will later visit Malindi orphanage, where he will also share a cake with the orphans as part of series of the birthday celebrations.
Most political leaders allied to the Azimio la Umoja and the ODM party have already flocked Malindi where the celebrations are taking place.
Similar celebrations will be conducted in Kwale, Mabriver Tiwi Club Swiss and in Mombasa at Mikindani social hall in Jomvu Sub county.
The celebrations will go on for the whole day on Sunday.
The nationwide celebrations are taking place in designated areas where Kenyans will join and cut the cake, to celebrate Raila’s 79th birthday.
“The cutting of the cake is symbolic, we want the government to cut down the cost of living and make the living standards bearable,” read part of ODM statement.
The cutting of the cake will be conducted around 3pm on Sunday.
The opposition leader has been on the Kenya Kwanza government, gnashing it for failing to facelift the lives of Kenyans almost one and a half years since the August, 2022 general polls.
Odinga has been demanding for a reduction of the cost of living and the high taxes President William Ruto’s government has been implementing.
“Kenyans are living in despair, they have been subjected to high cost of living, heavy tax burden living them poorer,” said Raila recently.
He also raised concerns following the interference of the Judiciary independence.
Raila warned that by holding government institutions captive, the country is definitely heading back to the colonial days.
“We are not bowed by the threats and empty promises by Ruto, he should work on his failures, Kenyans want to see the cost of living down,” said Mr. Odinga.
