Government urged to work with youth for nation stability

Youth remain integral part of the society and critical aspect of the country’s development, thus the need for proper investment to guide them to the right path.

Renowned youth Mentor, Mahmoud Noor stated that the government cannot ignore the youth in its critical development strategy considering that more than 70% of the country’s population comprise of the youthful generation.

Mr Noor who has been for the last decade work with the coastal youth, initiating different projects and sustainable programs geared towards face-lifting the lives of the youth, noted that by fully involving the youth in all the government development plans, the government will be strengthening the country’s future.

While addressing the National Council of Churches of Kenya at its 65th General Assembly themed “Dignified Livelihoods, Resilient communities” Noor who exhibited the coastal experience where he has been working with the youth in realising sustainable livelihood, noted the importance of transforming the youth by deterring them from indulging in crime and drug abuse through equipping them with relevant skills and enable them become self-reliant.

The conference took place at the Jumuiya Centre in Limuru, Kiambu County.

Efforts

The renowned youth mentor who initiated Swahilipot Hub, a Technology, Art and Heritage centre that created conducive platform for thousands of youth who accessed free internet to explore their creativity and using the digital space to earn a living, said the centre has played important role in transforming the coastal youth.

“This conference comes at a time when recently the country witnessed reactions from the young generation. These recent protests were triggered by highly learned and experienced youth who heavily depend on employment. Let’s also not forget the fact that the current Global economy is also challenging our youth to embrace self-reliance,” he told the religious leaders.

The youth Icon stressed out the need for various stakeholders including the religious leaders, the National and the County governments to work in unison to achieve a single objective of uplifting the living standards of the youth.

“The government has initiated various revolving funds to enable youth initiate their own livelihood projects. However, there is need for financial management training, close monitoring and proper guidance so that these projects are sustainable,” said Noor.

Mr Noor who has received several accolades for having youth matters at heart and for launching different relevant initiatives that transformed the lives of the coastal youth stated that the funds may fail to impact the lives of the youth if there is no adequate information on how they can access and put it into use, including at both group and individual level.
