MOMBASA, Kenya—November 11, 2025—Detectives in Nyali, Mombasa, have arrested a woman accused of staging a fake robbery against her British boyfriend after luring him to her apartment for what was meant to be a romantic date.

The suspect, identified as Samira Mumbi Kiarie, alias Samira, allegedly conned the Briton after months of online communication in which she promised him “everlasting love.”

According to police, the man travelled to Mombasa to meet her and was invited to her posh Nyali apartment. However, shortly after arriving, two men stormed in—one posing as Samira’s enraged husband and the other flashing a fake police ID.

The “husband” accused the Briton of wrecking his marriage, while the fake officer threatened to arrest him. Fearing for his safety, the victim was coerced into transferring Sh800,000 to mobile numbers provided by the gang.

After receiving the money, the trio escorted him out before disappearing into the night.

Detectives later tracked down Samira and one of her accomplices, identified as Paul Webster Mangeni, alias Paulo, following an intelligence-led operation. Police say the duo is part of a wider syndicate that targets foreigners through dating sites before luring them to rented apartments and robbing them.

Both suspects are in custody and are expected to be arraigned as investigations continue to hunt down their accomplices.
