Kenya’s President William Ruto has dismissed his entire Cabinet.

This follows the intensive pressure piled by the youthful generation, famously known as Gen-Z who demanded an overhaul of the government.

In a national address on Thursday afternoon, President Ruto however, retained the Prime Cabinet Secretary who also served the Foreign and Diaspora Affairs docket. He also said the office of the Deputy President will not be interfered with.

“Upon reflection, listening keenly to what the people of Kenya have said and after a holistic appraisal of the performance of my Cabinet and its achievements and challenges, I have, in line with the powers given to me by Article 152(1) and 152(5)(b) of the Constitution and Section 12 of the Office of the Attorney-General Act, decided to dismiss with immediate effect all the Cabinet Secretaries and the Attorney-General from the Cabinet of the Republic of Kenya except the Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs. But my Deputy is not affected,” he said.

The president signaled further rearrangement of his government as Principal secretaries take charge.

It all started with a rejection of the controversial Finance Bill 2024, which turned to a push to overhaul the entire government. Recently the youth have been singing “Ruto Must Go”

In the recent protests, at least 41 young people were killed by police with over 300 injured. This led to international condemnation.
