Former Gender Cabinet Secretary in the Kenya Kwanza Government, Aisha Jumwa has accelerated her bid for the Kilifi County Gubernatorial seat.

Jumwa, who served as Kilifi County Woman Representative before clinching the Malindi Parliamentary seat and later joined the Kilifi Gubernatorial seat race in 2022 general polls which she lost to the current Governor Gideon Mung’aro, says her bid is pegged on the County ‘s development agenda.

Addressing mourners in Mwanamwinga, Kaloleni Constituency, during the burial of former Chief, Bernard Sulubu, Jumwa stated that Kilifi residents need better services from the county government and not empty politics.

She appealed to locals to support her bid so that she enacts the changes locals have been yearning for.

“My opponents are saying that since I am no longer a Cabinet Secretary then am nothing, I did not come to you to campaign for a Cabinet Secretary position right? I only came here to campaign for the Gubernatorial seat and we will fight for that,” Jumwa told the residents.

The vocal politician who served as Public Service Cabinet Secretary before she was transferred to the Gender docket, before President William Ruto effected abrupt changes in his Cabinet after the Gen-Z protests, sending the entire Cabinet home, said her main agenda is to transform the lives of Kilifi residents.

“Everything that the county government plans to implement should be clearly stipulated in it’s annual budget. If the proposed projects from the communities are not featured anywhere in the budget then nothing will be implemented,” she told residents.

The politician said losing the Cabinet Secretary post was not because of laxity or underperformance but the fate was as a result of circumstances.

She further criticised Kilifi County Government under the stewardship of Governor Gideon Mung’aro for underperforming, saying it has failed in uplifting the lives of locals, adding that the health, education, water among other critical development aspects of the County are on their knees.

“Cabinet Secretary position came as a by the way, I was comfortably engaging my communities at home before I was appointed as Cabinet Secretary in the Kenya Kwanza Government and I thank God and the president for that move. However, for now my focus is on Kilifi County Gubernatorial seat,” she said.
