Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen is linking a section of politicians to increasing criminal gangs and goons in the country.
Murkomen says the gangs and goons are targeting public places including places of worship.
This follows Sunday’s disruption at PCEA Kasarani East Church service, where former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua was among the congregation.
Speaking in Mombasa on Monday, Murkomen said that security teams countrywide have been placed on high alert to prevent such incidents from recurring, especially in churches and other public places.
“We will ensure that no place in the Republic of Kenya will allow any goons or gangs to invade any facility, whether it’s a church, school, or even the streets. This country is governed by the rule of law,” said Murkomen.
The incident unfolded on Sunday, April 6, when a group of youths stormed the church during a service attended by Gachagua.
Security forces reportedly shot in the air to disperse the rowdy group.
Gachagua, described the attack as “insensitive and unkind,” stating that it was politically instigated.
He accused President William Ruto and Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja of being behind the disruption.
Religious leaders have criticized the politics and insecurity being expressed by politicians in the country, urging politicians to respect places of worship.
Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba who is blaming the security agencies for withdrawing her security has criticized the commotions in places of worship asking the government to respect those with diverse opinions.
