Christians across the Globe marked Palm Sunday, ushering in the Holy week that will culminate with the Easter celebrations.

In Mombasa, the Catholic church faithful held peaceful processions on the streets towards churches singing praising songs and ‘Hossan in the most highest’

Mombasa Archdiocese Archbishop Martin Kivuva Musonde stressed out on the importance of repenting and doing good to people as the Catholic faithful usher in the Holy week.

“I urge you to put your efforts in guarding your faith during this remaining week before we officially enter the Easter celebrations,” said Archbishop Kivuva.

Palm Sunday commemorates Jesus triumphant entry into Jerusalem. Crowds welcomed him with palm branches singing ‘Hossana’. It marks the beginning of the Holy week, leading to his passion, death and resurrection. The day symbolises both celebration and sacrifice.

These activities pegged on strong faith comes after 40 days of lent, (fasting and praying) that will officially close on Good Friday.

On Friday, Christians across the Globe will conduct peaceful procession to mark Good Friday.

During the ‘Way of the Cross’ Christians will commemorate the crucification and death of Jesus Christ.

On Saturday night, Christians will conduct Holy Mass at night to commemorate the resurrection of Jesus Christ the Son of God, according to their faith.

On Sunday and Monday, Christians across the Globe will feast and celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Catholic priests are urging faithful to repent, pray, share with the needy in the society and always do good to humankind.

They are also calling for peaceful coexistence in the country, respecting human rights, good governance that is sensitive to human kind and transparent leadership.

The Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops (KCCB) has been tearing apart the government for ignoring the plights of Kenyans especially on health matters and basic human needs.
