Christians across the globe marked Good Friday, carrying the Holy Cross, in peaceful processions across various cities and major towns.

The Catholic faithful in the country prayed the Way of the Cross, the final one during the entire Lent period that started with the Ash Wednesday. During the Lent period, the Catholic Faithful observed fasting repenting, praying and doing good deeds to mankind.

In several occasions the Catholic faithful were seen kneeling down along the streets, citing special readings of the Way of the Cross and singing deeply meditating songs marking the day Jesus Christ was crucified, died on the cross, buried and resurrected.

On Saturday night, the Catholic faithful will converge in churches for the holy Easter Celebrations to mark the resurrection of Jesus Christ, celebrations which will run from Saturday night through-out Monday.

In Mombasa, the Mombasa Archdiocese Archbishop Martin Kivuva, led Catholic faithful in marking the Good Friday by observing the Way of the Cross from the Holy Ghost Cathedral church, through the Mama Ngina Water Front and then through the Nyerere Avenue and back to the Holy Ghost Cathedral Catholic church through Fontanella round-about within Mombasa Island.

In his message to the congregation on Friday, Bishop Kivuva urged them to continue doing good deeds to mankind, pray, repent and always share with the needy in the society.

“Even as we come to the end of the 40-days of the lent, let us stick to our religion, lets pray to our God to guide us to the right path. Let us pray for our nation too and uphold the hope for a better future,” noted Bishop Kivuva before the start of the procession outside the Holy Ghost Cathedral along the Nkrumah road in Mombasa to mark Good Friday.

Good Friday, comes before Easter celebrations. It marks the day when Jesus Christ was crucified and died on the cross. He was buried and later resurrected according to the Christian faith.

Other churches too among them the Anglican church also marked Good Friday.
