Embakasi East Member of Parliament, Babu Owino has rubbished the ongoing efforts to impeach Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, saying he is not part of it.
Owino, says he had very important things and issues to solve in his constituency and not to engage in political games non-beneficial to Kenyans.
According to Owino, he will only indulge himself in serious deliberations in the Parliament when issues among them the Adani Airport deal, Social Health Authority (SHA), University funding model and the country’s economy will be presented in the parliament.
The Embakasi MP says that he is focused into improving the living standards of his electorates and the impeachment motion has totally nothing to do with the welfare of Kenyans.
“How can I waste my precious whole day discussing about Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua yet we have serious issues like Adani, the new university funding model, SHIF, High cost of living, High taxation, unemployment among others. You will see me in parliament when these issues are presented but they will not bring them. I was highly engaged with other important and urgent matters affecting my constituents. The speed with which Rigathi was impeached should be the same speed used to solve Kenyans challenges,” said Owino.
He urged other members of parliament to advance urgent matters of concern to Kenyans and not depicting selfish interest, completely forgetting their roles as leaders.
Owino’s sentiments come amid serious push of removing the Deputy President out of office.
On Tuesday, a total of 281 Legislatures voted to impeach DP Gachagua against only 44 Lawmakers.
Some notable names among them Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro was missing in action during the Tuesday sitting.
Though many Kenyans disapproved the developments stating that the move has nothing to do with them and their views and opinions during the hurried public participation sessions did not hold waters, the MPs went ahead to impeach Gachagua.
On Wednesday, the Senate, deliberated on the matter and the Senate Speaker Amason Jeffa Kingi set Wednesday 16, and Thursday 17 as days of deliberations, the Deputy President to defend himself before the Senate votes for or against the motion.
The political intrigues and efforts to remove Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua from office has sharply divided Kenyans across the country.
