Multi-Agency Security team has arrested Al-shabaab terrorist Mustakima Mohammed Ali famously known as Abu Mahir along the Lamu-Malindi Highway.

Mustakima has been on the anti-terror police unit radar since 2019 and was wanted whether dead or alive for being involved in the killings of a police officer, a Chief and his Assistant in Lamu County in 2019.

He was arrested while en-route to Malindi from Lamu onboard a bus.

Mustakima was among terrorists hiding in Boni Forest before vanishing to Somalia following enhanced operations by Kenyan security agencies.

Most of his accomplices have either been killed or prosecuted in ongoing government efforts to fight terrorism.

The government has termed Mustakima arrest as a major milestone in the fight against terrorism in the country.

Terrorism has for years affected the country’s tourism sector and recently interfered with the construction of the LAPSSET project in Lamu connecting the county with Ethiopia. LAPSSET has been singled out as the major infrastructure development in the country.
