Mombasa Catholic Archdiocese Archbishop Martin Kivuva Musonde has urged the government to cease the ongoing abductions in the country.

Archbishop Kivuva said the situation has sent many Kenyans into panic following the arbitrary arrest and forcibly disappearance.

Addressing the press at the Holy Ghost Cathedral in Mombasa, Archbishop Kivuva warned that the situation if not contained may yield into a very bad trend in the country, creating a huge gap between the leadership, security details and the public.

The religious leader noted that the government is involved in the abductions and if not then it should be clear on who is behind the gross human rights violation.

“We all know that this is a security concern and gross human rights violation as well. If the government is not involved then it should tell us who is doing it. It is the same government which should investigate and answer our very many disturbing questions,” said Kivuva.

He reiterated the need for the government to protect it’s citizens at all times.

“Kenyans are slowly disconnecting themselves with the current regime following the disheartening occurrences being witnessed in the country. This must stop. If the security agencies are suspecting people let them arrest those people and present them before a court of law,” reiterated Archbishop Kivuva.

Bishop Kivuva’s concerns come even as the National Police Service (NPS) is denying being involved in the abductions.

Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja has denied police involvement in the rising kidnapping and forcible disappearances.

“The work of the National Police Service is to arrest criminal offenders and record statements before taking them to a court of law. If they do not meet the threshold we release them,” said the IG in a statement released on Thursday.

Kanja went ahead, “There is no police station in the country holding abductees and Kenyans should stop the false, fabricated, malicious, distasteful, misinformed and unverified information. There is freedom of expression,  however, it comes with responsibility,”

Addressing the press on Thursday, Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah insisted that police are fully involved in the abductions and forcibly disappearances and killings of innocent souls.

“The Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja and DCI boss Mohamed Amin have colluded in executing the abduction spree,” said Omtatah.

The concerns come after the kidnapping of a renowned cartoonist Gideon Kibet famously known as Kibet Bull on X platform who has been sharing silhouettes with characteristics and likeness of President William Ruto, the kidnapping of Billy Mwangi and Bernard Kivuli among others.
