Kenya athlete Charles Kipsang died just after crossing the finishing line while participating at the Cameroon Mountain Race on Saturday.
The sad incident occurred barely a day after a World marathoner Kelvin Kiptum was burried after his abrupt death, following tragic road accident few days ago.
Another athlete Henry Rono also succumbed after he was taken ill barely a week ago.
According to Cameroon media, Kipsang maintained the lead throughout the race, however, immediately after crossing the finishing line he collapsed and efforts by health officials to rescucitate him failed.
He died while being rushed to Buea Regional Hospital by medical personnel.
The 34 year old athlete did not show any signs of poor health throughout the race and thereafter according to health officials.
“We are yet to establish the cause of his death,” noted Cameroon’s South West Governor Bernard Okalia Bilai.
The incident hit hard the country few days after Kenyan world marathon holder Kelvin Kiptum died in a road accident.
Kiptum, together with his coach Gervais Hakizimana died on the spot during the tragic accident.
Kiptum was laid to rest on Friday, burial ceremony graced by President William Ruto among other government officials.
Kenya has in the last two weeks lost three world icons in the athletic scene, Henry Rono, Marathoner Kelvin Kiptum and Charles Kipsang.
