Angry youth activists in Mombasa on Saturday gave the government a 24-hour ultimatum to release all the abducted youth being detained in unknown places.
The youth while addressing journalists at Human rights lobby Haki Africa offices in Mombasa condemned the government for gross human rights violation, totally ignoring the cries of Kenyans and the constitution.
According to the activists, there is no way Kenyans will continue living in fear, they will fight back until Kenya Kwanza government respects human rights and the rule of law.
“We will not sit down and keep quiet as the government mutilates the constitution and violate our rights. We will fight back,” said Youth activist, Lydia Adhiambo.
The youthful rights defenders reiterated that the government is fully involved with the abductions and torturing of innocent youth.
“The National Police Service and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations are fully involved in this. We will take urgent action. When we see the DCI in civilian cloth trying to force someone is Subaru or their Probox vehicle , we will retaliate and do the citizen arrest and take them to court ourselves,” noted Adhiambo.
She further blamed President William Ruto for hiding behind religion and doing the extreme evils to Kenyans.
“When the police play innocence on this matter, then we have the President on the other side telling Kenyans that the abductions will stop, that is the answer to Kenyans that the orders come from the President and the police and DCI executes,” added Adhiambo.
Her sentiments were echoed by another youth activist, Wallid Sketi who insisted that Monday, 30, 2024, all Kenyans from across the country will protest the spate of abductions.
“Enough is enough. How can you abduct innocent souls, detain them for over 32 days and then release them without any charges? Which constitution even states that? We want to see anyone who is said to have committed crime to be charged in court and not being abducted and tortured. Some have been killed already especially after the Gen-Z protests,” said Sketi.
Speaking at the same presser, Mombasa based youth activist Christine Khabuya urged the youth and human rights defenders to stand firm to defend righteousness in the country.
“We blame Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, both former and current Deputy presidents Rigathi Gachagua and Kithure Kindiki as well as the Leaders of Majority and Minority at the National Assembly Kimani Ichung’wa and Junet Mohamed for condoning such grave actions from the government,” said Khabuya.
There remarks comes as human rights defenders across the country promised a show down on Monday 30, 2024 to fight back the abduction spree in the country.
They demanded unconditional release of abductees cartoonist Gideon Kibet famously known as Kibet Bull, his brother Ronny Kiplagat Billy Mwangi, Bernard Kavuli among others whose whereabouts remain unknown.
On Friday President Ruto promised to stop the abductions.
