
At least ten passengers survived a tragic road accident at Kibarani in Mombasa on Friday night.
The accident involved three Public Service Vehicles (PSV) and a bodaboda.
According to eye witnesses, a Tahmeed bus heading to Nairobi from Mombasa experienced faulty brakes and hit a matatu.
While sliding back at the Kibarani road, the two vehicles also hit another matatu.
Five passengers on board a Mwembe tayari-Mikindani bound matatu were seriously injured with two including the driver of the matatu sustaining broken legs and other injuries in the bodies.
Three others in a different matatu were also seriously injured. All were rushed to the Coast General Teaching and Referral Hospital (CGTRH) for urgent medical attention.
No deaths were reported at the accident scene.
Traffic police officers from both Changamwe and Makupa police stations cleared the scene and towed the vehicles to Makupa and Changamwe police stations.
The around 9pm accident affected traffic flow at the main gateway to Mombasa Island also affecting those heading to the Moi International Airport to catch their flights.
Police are investigating the cause of the accident, though preliminary reports indicate that the Tahmeed company owned bus experience faulty brakes before hitting the other two matatus and a bodaboda.
The bodaboda driver and his passenger jumped off the motorcycle and survived the accident, however, they sustained multiple injuries on their bodies.
