At least two people died on Friday after they were involved in a tragic road carnage at Bangladesh area, in Jomvu, along the Mombasa-Nairobi highway.
The accident involved a Nissan matatu and a bodaboda.
Both passengers travelling on the bodaboda died on the spot while 11 others were rushed to the Coast Teaching and Referral General Hospital for urgent treatment.
The 11 passengers sustained serious injuries and were rushed to the largest referral health facility in the Coast region for urgent medical attention.
Confirming the accident Jomvu police boss Lyn Wanjiru urged motorists to be very carefully while operating on the road, saying reckless driving on the newly constructed highway has resulted into destruction, injuries and deaths.
“Motorists should observe all traffic rules at all times and avoid reckless driving and overspeeding. These will save lives on our roads,” Said Wanjiru.
Among those who died are bodyguard to Jomvu MP Badi Twalib, Charles Odera. The Legislature mourned Odera as a dedicated servant who worked with him in implementing various development projects in the Constituency.

Charles was more than a protector; he was a loyal friend, a dedicated servant, and a true hero who stood by my side with unwavering courage and commitment. His loss is deeply felt by all who knew him, and his legacy of bravery and kindness will forever remain in our hearts. To his family and loved ones, I offer my deepest condolences. May his soul rest in eternal peace, and may we find strength in the cherished memories of his life,” stated Badi.
In his statement to newsrooms Friday evening, Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Sharif Nassir said that he was pained by the loss of lives caused by the Friday road accident.
“I join the families who have lost their loved ones in today’s road accident. Though as a County government we have worked with the National government in improving the road infrastructure in our County, we appeal to all road users to be very careful so as to save lives on the road,” stated Nassir.
