NAIROBI, Kenya, November 14, 2025—The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) on Friday, arrested the Anti-Counterfeit Authority (ACA), Board Chairperson Josphat Gichunge Kabeabea following a search operation at his residence and offices as part of ongoing investigations into alleged bribery, extortion of investors, and acquisition of unexplained wealth.

The search was executed following court orders obtained after preliminary findings indicated that on November 11, 2025, Mr. Kabeabea allegedly demanded a KES 5 million bribe from a Chinese investor trading as Hongda Automotive Limited. He is accused of threatening to arrest the investor over alleged involvement in counterfeit trade unless the bribe was paid.

According to the complaint, the suspect later reduced the demand from KES 5 million to KES 150,000, which was reportedly sent to a mobile number believed to belong to his personal driver. Investigators say similar allegations have surfaced, suggesting the incident was not isolated.

Kabeabea has been arrested and is currently detained at the Integrity Centre Police Station for further questioning and statement recording.

EACC has reiterated its commitment to combating corruption, protecting public resources, and ensuring fair and accountable service delivery to all citizens.
